The New Forest
The designated New Forest Park area is a haven for wildlife, with interesting rare insects, rare birds, reptiles such as the Great Crested Newt, squirrels, mink, otters and larger animals. These include the New Forest ponies, cattle and pigs, and several species of deer. There are some gorgeous holiday cottages in the New Forest, though planning permission is rare for new builds.

The Needles
Three striking chalk stacks leading off the Isle of Wight. Former site of a missile battery, they are now a major tourist attraction, with people coming from across Britain to stay on the Isle of Wight and visit the needles via boat.
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home to the HMS Victory and the Mary Rose Museum, this ancient dockyard still launches Royal Navy bases. Visit them all, and grab a bite to eat at one of the local cafes.
Carisbrooke Castle
This imposing castle was once the prison of King Charles I, following his civil war defeat by roundheads, tired of the excesses of the crown. Now a great day out, where the kids can meet donkeys and explore the Princess Beatrice garden.
